Uglydolls Set for Success in Australia and New Zealand

International success story Uglydolls is set to expand in Australia and New Zealand with Merchantwise Licensing appointed the local agent for White Space Entertainment.

Merchantwise Licensing is already in the process of lining up retail plans for the property in the domestic markets ahead of the Uglydolls animated film’s release in 2019, directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by STX Entertainment. STX is creating a franchise around Uglydolls that starts with the film release and moves into TV and other content in 2020 and beyond.

Uglydolls

What started as a long distance letter between its creators David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim, Uglydolls launched as a collectible plush line and has since firmly established itself as a specialty toy brand with a dedicated core fan base around the world.

Planting itself in pop culture, the Uglydolls brand has popped up in music videos, films, television shows and has been worn by President Barack Obama’s daughter Sasha Obama on her first day of school.

Distinguished by its name, Uglydolls represents all that is special and unique and that individuality, diversity and differences should be embraced and celebrated.

“We are thrilled to be appointed as an agent for Whitespace Entertainment in Australia and New Zealand and already have some exciting plans for Uglydolls in anticipation of the film’s release in 2019. David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim have created an incredibly exciting brand that celebrates individuality and diversity that has resonated with audiences all over the world and will surely do so here too,” said Merchantwise Managing Director, Alan Schauder.

“We couldn’t have chosen a better partner than Merchantwise Licensing to help us develop the Uglydolls brand in Australia and New Zealand,” said Stephanie Sperber, CEO of White Space. “We know Alan and his team are going to build this brand into a powerhouse in the region.”
